Make your voice heard in the QLD Government Artisan Liquor Survey

21 Jun 2023 2:00 PM | Anonymous member (Administrator)

The Queensland Government is in the process of updating its Craft Brewing Strategy (including renaming the strategy to include distillers), and you should have recently received a survey to provide input. This represents a great opportunity to have our voice as an industry heard, including the common goals that we’ve been working on as the QDA.

As a refresher, here are some of the key points QDA has been advocating for with the QLD government.

  • The need for strategic government investment in the distilling industry, with $6 million dollars sought over 3 years, to fund initiatives like distillery door and export readiness grants.
  • The need for a formal distilling trade training program to ensure we have a capable, best in the world workforce to run QLD’s craft distilleries. The Cert III in distilling to be piloted this year is the important first step in this.
  • The need for better retail market access for craft distillers. The proposed trial of sales of QLD Artisan Liquor via independent grocers is a key step to allow Queenslanders to discover and enjoy the world class spirits being made in their own state.
  • The need for a smarter approach to regulatory change that can have a disproportionate impact on a young craft distilling industry. This includes exempting artisan producers from the container refund scheme, and a sensible approach for online alcohol delivery.

Please make sure you take the opportunity the survey provides, including sharing how the above points can support your own business to grow, provide more employment and contribute to the QLD economy.
