Introduction to Distillery Safety - New Certified Course

In collaboration with the NSW Government and the National Distilling Institute we are proud to roll out the first certified Introduction to Distillery safety Courses in NSW.

Building from the Australian Distillers Association course, the updated and certified course adds practical elements observed on the day and a small project component that distillers, (who reside/work in regional NSW), can complete in their own distillery.

This one-day, in-person course is designed to equip distillery professionals, like yourself, with relevant, industry specific, workplace safety training. The comprehensive curriculum covers essential safety protocols and responsibilities, ensuring participants understand the critical importance of compliance and the potential ramifications of non-adherence.

The updated course adds user friendly templates and frameworks for risk assessment and hazard identification documents that students will create for use in their own workplace.

Learning outcomes include:

1. Understand entry safety requirements for working in a distillery.

2. Learn about safety programs and their significance.

3. Familiarise with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations.

4. Understand risk assessments.

5. Create Risk Assessment documents for your workplace

6. Identify and mitigate key dangers in a distillery environment.

7. Create hazard identification documents for your workplace

8. Introduction to working with dangerous goods.

9. Learn hazardous area classification.

10. Discover resources for accessing relevant legislation.

11. Knowing the risks involved in distillation.

12. How to read a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)

On completion of the training, you will be independently assessed and receive a certificate of completion and competency (subject to assessment).

Course facilitator: Seb Reaburn

I come to my roles as founder at Anther Gin and Master Distiller with Top Shelf from a long history in the alcohol industry, making cocktails, serving spirits, and managing brands. In every role I have been recognised with national and international awards, including Champion Spirit Trophies, Bartender of the Year, World’s Best Cocktail Menu, Australian Whisky Producer of the Year, Australian Vodka Producer of the Year and Worlds best Vodka Producer. I have been a part of the Australian liquor industry for over two decades and in that time I have had the pleasure of operating and owning some of the most awarded bars in Australia (1806 and Heartbreaker). I‘ve enjoyed being part of building high growth independent brands including 42 Below, 666 Vodka, Anther Gin with Dervilla McGowan as well as Ned, Grainshaker and Act of Treason Agave with the Top Shelf portfolio. As partner in Anther Spirits with Dervilla McGowan, we have built a dedicated distillery and cellar door in Geelong Australia. I have had the privilege over my career to design, build and commission several distilleries, working closely with safety and design consultants, to create safe workplaces that produce award winning spirits.
